Furthur is a band the is derived out of the Grateful Dead featuring Bob Weir and Phil Lesh. Founded in 2009, Furthur is a new band, however they have over 40 years of history that they pull from. Preston Hoffman has served as their Lighting Director since February of 2010. Pulling from a repertoire of over 500 songs, the band never plays the same setlist twice making each show a unique experience. The Grateful Dead's catalog is musical institution and the variety of styles include, rock, folk, country, funk, jazz, reggae, bluegrass as well as their own style. The setlists have even been known to relate to each other from night to night. Every single day there is a new challenge which makes this band not only exciting to work for but fulfilling as well.
In order to effectively compliment their live show the LD must be able to work "on the fly" interpreting the music as it goes as the band often lets improvisation take them to unique musical places. This requires a special type of programing and execution where the LD must be in the moment and react accordingly. The band plays in various sizes of venues both indoor and out. The lighting rig is designed to scale to fit the smallest and largest of the venues on the tour. Grateful Dead fans are there to experience the music which means that the light show must fit the music as well as not be too over the top and distracting. All of these unique challenges is what makes Furthur the most exciting band to work for!
